Big League Marketing
Attorneys Online, Inc., has an office in Lubbock, TX, and even though there haven’t always been a lot of reasons for Lubbock to make the national scene—whether from a lawyer internet marketing standpoint or otherwise—it turns out that there is a new one. The Lubbock area Little League team made it to the Little League World Series just a couple of weeks ago! (Can your hear the good ol’ boys yellin’!)
Even though the team didn’t win the whole thing, they did place third in the world behind the team from Georgia and Japan. The boys played some great ball because they had a coach to help guide them with the best advice and they played as a team. Lubbock Western (as they are called) t-shirts will likely be worn all over town until next summer.
It is not difficult to understand the connection between the success of the Little League team and that of Attorneys Online, Inc. The team emphasis in our company is huge and we take our attorney marketing projects on as a team. Each member has a job to do that will ultimately bring success to the whole. From attorney website design to attorney web marketing to lawyer brochure design to pay-per-click campaigns and much more—Attorneys Online fills all the positions with the players that have the skills to play well.
If there is a “Big League” for lawyer web marketing, then Attorneys Online, Inc., is playing in the World Series right now. We’re making a good showing, too. I think we might have t-shirts made soon.
Reciprocal links for search engine optimization? No, thanks!
I get emails from our clients constantly about other websites wanting to exchange links. Basically, these other webmasters want to my client to put a link to the webmaster’s site and the webmaster will put a link to my client’s site. In theory, this sounds like a great idea – you have an inbound link, which is great for your law firm’s website search engine optimization. But don’t reply with a quick “sure”! We almost always tell our clients to emphatically say “NO!” and here’s why:
- While the other webmasters may say that they are going to put up the link, they may not actually do so. Or, if they do, they may take it down, which totally negates the entire process.
- By having a link to another person’s site, it is basically like you are endorsing that firm. If you have no idea who this other firm is, why bother letting your clients know about them?
- Inbound links are more powerful if they are not reciprocal links. This goes back to number 1 and why the other firm may remove your link.
- Inbound links are more powerful if they are relevant. For example, if your Better Business Bureau or local bar association will have a link to your site, that is considered relevant. However, if a Japanese telephone manufacturer has a link to you, it is unlikely to be relevant and thus not help you too much.
Now, all of that said, if you have someone that you want to endorse or that wants to endorse you, feel free to exchange links. But don’t agree to exchange links with Joe Smith in Australia in the hopes that it helps your placement. Your law firm internet marketing campaign should always have your best interest at heart; if someone is offering you a link exchange for free - ask yourself what is in it for them.
Reds, blues, and greens - oh, my! Choosing attorney website design colors
When we are creating a new attorney web design, we always ask the client if he/she has any color preferences. Often, the client will tell us his/her favorite colors; however, one woman selected her law firm website design based on the predominant colors in her wardrobe (lots of camel brown)!
Many clients stress about what colors on the website may mean, but, truthfully, a good-looking site in any color is what is most important. That said, after doing some basic web research, here is a quick summary of the most popular color meanings (bear in mind that not all sites agree on definitive color definitions).
- Red: power, leadership, passion
- Blue: calm, trust, wisdom
- Green: growth, safety, well-being
- Yellow: energy, happiness, exciting
Other things to consider: Different colors mean different things in various cultures, to various age groups, to various genders, etc. Due to this, I really do not think stressing about color is the best use of your time; you cannot please everyone all the time. Pick a color that you like and go with it!
