After learning my lesson to never fly ATA (especially on the long haul to Hawaii), I decided to give Hawaiian Air a chance. As it turns out, Hawaiian Air is one of the best airlines that I have ever flown. To celebrate changing terminals in Phoenix, they had cake and drinks for all passengers (although 8 AM for cake is a little early for me), “Hawaiian representatives” while we waited to board to teach us Hawaiian words and Hawaiian culture, and we all got shell leis as we boarded. Then, we got full meals on our flight (I didn’t even know airlines still did that) and watched decent movies. Hawaiian Air was very accommodating and I only wish that they flew more within the mainland!

The ABA convention itself was wonderful. Though we were worried about the turnout since it is in Hawaii, we were pleasantly surprised to have met more people at this convention than at any other. The attendees were enthusiastic and very friendly as they moved through the exhibit hall and we look forward to many future clients. While many exhibitors chose not to attend the convention because of its cost and its distance, they definitely missed out on one of the best conventions of the year and we can’t wait to go next year!

If you are interested in visiting Hawaii, Honolulu is nice if you really like to be in a big city (but with palm trees, coconuts, and an oceanview), but Maui is definitely the place to spend your time. Maui is what I always pictured Hawaii to really look like. One of our clients suggested that we take a flight lesson to really see the islands, which we did. It was definitely an amazing experience; though we didn’t see any whales, we did see several shipwrecks. We also decided to SNUBA (which is a cross between snorkeling and SCUBA-ing), which was nice. But whatever you do, you are most likely to be better off booking any excursions through your hotel rather than at one of those booths on the street corner (boy, did we learn the hard way!). Aloha!

Though I had never been to Seattle before, I knew that there were two “touristy” things that I had to see – the Space Needle and Pike’s Market. The Space Needle did give a great view of Washington and it is something that you should probably do once, but I don’t know if I want to pay fourteen dollars to ride an elevator again. But the real treat of the city is Pike’s Market. The ladies from Attorneys Online went there after dropping off our bags at the hotel. While we didn’t see flying fish (it was too late in the day), we did get to sample incredible fruit (we recommend cherries and lychees), homemade cheese (they let you sample several before you decide which to purchase), exotic teas (though no organics), and some of Washington’s wines. Since it was Bastille Day, we even got to see some Can-Can dancers doing a PG-13 cabaret dance in the street. It is definitely the place to go whether you have hours of time or days.

The ATLA convention itself was very nice; we are now starting to be regulars at the convention and we have lots of friends to mingle with. The highlight of the convention was getting to go with many of the Texas Trial Lawyers (since we have so many offices in Texas) to meet John Edwards in a private suite. No matter what your political affiliations, it was pretty nice to go and hear what he had to say in person. Overall, the ATLA convention is always one of our favorites and we look forward to Miami!
