ATLA convention in Hawaii
If you ever go to a convention in Honolulu, leave your business suits, slacks, and ties at home. Instead, bring plenty of Hawaiian shirts, shorts, and flip-flops. While at the ATLA convention in Hawaii in February, we learned this the hard way, but we will be ready for the ABA convention in Hawaii in August. Other than being a little overdressed, the rest of the convention was a hit! Not only did we get to make some great contacts (and get a few clients), but we got to spend the week in paradise. ATLA even sponsored an incredible luau with food, dancers, and leis right next to the beach.
In our spare time, we made sure to go to Diamond Head, a local festival, and to explore the island. The real estate is beautiful and the beaches are stunning. The best meal that we had was at a little Japanese restaurant, called Kochu, near the Sheraton Waikiki and the Outrigger hotels. Make sure to try the Sake cocktails and, for the seafood eaters, you have to try and get your appetizer in an ice igloo – the presentation can’t be beat.
When it comes to flying to Hawaii, whatever you do, do not fly ATA. Besides having a rude staff, they overbook their seats and offer little accommodation. We did hear great things about Aloha, however, and we hope to take them next time!
